Textile, Commerce & Industries Minister Thongam Biswajit has urged Union Minister of MSME Narayan Rane to set up two Industrial estates and two Honey clusters in the State.
“To enhance the business atmosphere, employment generation and economic growth, I would like to request to the ministry, particularly the Hon’ble Union Minister; to sanction the proposed establishment of 2 industrial estates at Imphal East and Senapati at the earliest; to approve and sanction the proposal for establishment of Fruit Juice Cluster for Tetrapak; to approve and sanction the proposed 2 nos of honey cluster under SFURTI which are pending in the ministry”, Minister Biswajit urged the Union Minister of MSME.
Attending the conclave of Chief Ministers and Industry Ministers of the Northeast held at Taj Vivanta, Guwahati today, Minister Biswajit said that the Manipur Government is taking up various measures to provide employment avenues to much-educated youth and boost the economy by launching an industrial revolution.
The Minister conveyed that Manipur has the largest number of MSME business units in the Northeast as it managed to set up 12,438 different business units from 2015 to 2019.
“Manipur is one of the leading States in the NORTH EASTERN region in terms of performance under the (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise) sector as in the Annual Report (2018-19) Ministry of MSME, Manipur has 12,438 MSME businesses, the highest in the north eastern region during the period from 2015 to 2019”, Biswajit said
According to Udyan registration, Manipur topped the Northeast in providing jobs and getting MSME registration. As per Ministry of MSME report 2020-21, around 1.8 lakh individuals of the State have been provided employment under the MSME sector, he informed.
Maintaining that after the BJP-led government came to power in the State, many measures have been taken up to encourage entrepreneurs, the Minister said that the term of factory license has been extended from one year to 10 years and a single window clearance system has been introduced to facilitate the entrepreneurs who wish to set up factory/industry. Three industrial estates at Tera Urak, Bishnupur, Kuraopokpi in Kakching, and Takyel are properly operational in the State. There are around 112 work sheds and each work shed is providing jobs to not less than 800 workers. Construction of industrial estates in Ukhrul, Chandel, and Churachandpur is also on the verge of completion, he added. Informing that a Food park is running successfully at Nilakuthi in Imphal East, he said that the food park is providing jobs to above 600 persons.
Biswajit went on to say that the government is taking up steps to provide employment avenues to the youth under PM formalization of the Micro Food Processing Scheme.
“Under the PMEGP Scheme, 5901 individual units have been given bank loan with subsidy during the last five years. This shows that the MSMEs in the State is growing at a faster pace and is likely to grow more in the coming years”, Biswajit said and added that although many youths can be provided loans under the scheme, banks operating in the State do not take the scheme seriously, the Minister said while drawing the attention of the Union Minister in this regard.
Noting that Manipur is a gateway that connects India with the South East Asian countries, he said that giving more priority towards development in trade and commerce will boost the economy of the State and the country. He also sought approval to the proposal for setting up of Industrial Estates in Imphal East and Senapati districts.
