Jiribam Forest Division celebrates 66th Wildlife Week

With an aim to bring awareness to the people and for the protection and preservation of the flora and fauna. The 66th Wildlife Week is celebrated at Jiribam today under the theme “Wildlife, Nature and human existence”.
The celebration was organised by Jiribam Forest Division at DFO Complex, Uchathol, Jiribam.
Speaking at the programme, Divisional Forest Officer, Jiribam Forest Division Rajesh Darade,IFS said Wildlife Week is annually celebrated across the country from October 02 – October 08 every year in order to make people understand the importance of wildlife conservation.
He added, it is the fundamental duty of every citizen to protect flora and fauna.
Quoting the famous proverb of Mahatma Gandhi, he said “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress and identity can be judged by the way its animals are treated”.
In connection with the celebration of wildlife week, a quiz competition was held. Among the participants, in Category, I- Huirem Anandini, Soubik Chanda and M. Mangangthoiba Singh begged first, second and third position and in category II- N. Rajkishore, M. Wanglembi, and Th. Neha Chanu secured first, second and third positions respectively. Prizes for the slogan competition of 66th wildlife week were also distributed to the participants and its winners.
The programme was graced by Huirem Rajenkumar Singh, Hon’y wildlife warden, Jiribam Forest Division and Rajesh Darade, DFO, Jiribam District shared the dais as chief guest and president.
