‘Har Ghar Jal & Water Conservation’ awareness campaign held at Khuman Lampak

As a part of the ongoing 4 years Celebration by the Government in the State, an Awareness Campaign on ‘Har Ghar Jal & Water Conservation’ organised by Public Health Engineering Department, Govt. of Manipur was held at the Main Stadium, Khuman Lampak, Imphal, today. The campaign is being organized as a part of Jal Jivan Mission (JJM) envisioned to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections by 2024 to all households in rural India.
PHED Minister Losii Dikho, speaking at the Campaign as Chief Guest, said, Manipur is a beautiful state blessed with lots of natural resources. The state needs young committed people to actively take part in the developmental process of the state. Water has become an important commodity since water is one of the fundamental things necessary for survival. Even though awareness to educate people on preservation and conservation of water has been taken up, it takes time to make the people understand the importance of harvesting water. By 2022, the government with active participation of the Chief Minister will connect every household with safe potable water, he added.
The Minister further said that the youths can make a huge impact in spreading the message on conservation and preservation of water to the people. He appealed to the gathering taking part in the campaign to carry the message of water conservation with dedication and commitment.
Devesh Deval, Commissioner, PHED, said that the department aims to achieve the target within the next one year. Water is a natural resource and should not be taken for granted. Each and every citizen have the capacity to come together towards preservation and conservation of the natural resources. The programme is also being organized in the district level and village level mobilizing the public to create awareness among the people, he added.
A street play on JJM by the Nokphade Cultural Foundation Team enthralled the audience. The Minister also released the IEC Campaign of JJM carrying the message of importance of conservation and preservation of water. Later the Minister flagged off a cycle rally which will spread awareness on conservation and preservation of water among the masses. The cycle rally starts from the Main Stadium going through Hatta, Wangkhei, Moirangkhom, Singjamei, Kangla, North AOC and then will arrive at the Main Stadium.
H. Sunil Singh, Chief Engineer, PHED, S.Vashum, Addl. Chief Engineer, PHED, officials of PHED, sports person and school children took part in the awareness campaign.
