Two books authored by Nongthombam Premchand which elegantly pen pictured the relationship between postmodernization theater and the early theatrical performances which remain as an instrument of highlighting the authenticity of Manipuri culture – entitled “…and then, You Fly to Freedom” and 2nd edition of the Rituals & Performances were released today in a grand function held today at MDU, Yaiskul Imphal.
The book releasing function was organized by Critic Forum Manipur. Dr. Arambam Lokendro and Prof. N Tombi graced the occasion as Chief Guest and President respectively. Dean of Students of Manipur University Prof. L. Bishwanath Sharma spoke on the book ‘ …and then, You fly to freedom’, while Assistant Prof. Dr. L. Rameshwar Singh reviewed the 2nd edition of N. Premchand’s Rituals and Performances.
N. Premchand, former director of the EMRC, Manipur University, was also a theatre activist and had directed many plays. The two book attempts to fill the gap of missing part in understanding Manipur Culture from the prism of traditional Manipuri performing arts which have its root from Lai Haraoba. The books also discussed in dept on the impact of the arrival of Hinduism on the performing art of Manipur and its evolution in the near future.
