CM inspects Condition of Nambul River

Imphal, August 27:
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh today inspected the Nambul river stretch from Keishampat to historic Thong Nambonbi and planted tree saplings along the Nambul river bank from Wahengbam Leikai to Keishampat Junction today.

Speaking to media persons, N Biren Singh said that the Rejuvenation and Conservation of Nambul River project with estimated costs of around Rs 95 crore being taken up along the polluted stretch of the river from Iroisemba to Heirangoithong area is quite a success. Under the project, sewage pipeline would be constructed along both sides of the river from Iroishemba to Mongsangei in order to prevent sewerage falling into the river directly, he added.  The Chief Minister maintained that the urban waste would be treated by using latest technology at the Water Treatment Plant located at Mongsangei area.

Highlighting the importance and peculiarity of Nambul river, N. Biren said that the tree sapling plantation of Bougainvillea along the river banks of Nambul river from Thong Nambonbi to Keishampat is being taken up so as to attract tourists and beautify the landscape.

Minister of Forest and Environment Awangbow Newmai, Deputy Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly K. Robindro, Deputy Chairman of State Planning Board S. Rajen, MLAs, Chief Secretary, DGP and others were present during the program.
