The Irengbam Chaoren Memorial Trust has announced the results of its 2025 Memorial Essay Writing Competition, held in commemoration of the 68th Birth Anniversary of Irengbam Chaoren at the Catholic School, Canchipur and the Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School. The competition drew enthusiastic participation from school and college students, reflecting growing interest in Manipur’s modern historical and political discourse.
The contest, conducted on October 12, 2025, featured two categories — Category-A for students of Classes VIII to X, and Category-B for students of Class XI and above. Participants wrote on the topic “Political Status of Manipur, 1947–1949.” The Category-A centre was hosted at Catholic School, Canchipur, while Category-B participants competed at Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School, Canchipur. A total of 1,500 students took part, marking the event’s increasing educational significance.
The results were declared today, and the prize distribution ceremony will be held on November 2, 2025, at the Manipur University Auditorium.
In Category-A, Elangbam Langlen Chanu of Eureka Academy won first place, followed by Arambam Etheel of Nirmalabas High School and Elangbam Dhanista of Pole Star School. Consolation prizes were presented to students from Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School, Ratankumar Memorial School, Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School, and Khundrakpam Public School, among others.
In Category-B, Irabanta Kshetrimayum (MA History, Manipur University) topped the list, while Mutum Yaithoiba Meetei (Passed-out MA History, Manipur University) and Sapam Langlensana Chanu (Class XII, Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School) secured second and third places respectively. Other prize winners represented institutions such as DM College of Science, DM College of Arts, Competitive Success Academy, Chingtam Foundation for Innovative Education, KM Blooming Higher Secondary School, and UNACCO School.
The annual essay competition, a major initiative of the Irengbam Chaoren Memorial Trust, aims to deepen historical understanding and encourage critical engagement with Manipur’s political developments during 1947–1949.
