The Republican Party of India (RPI) Athawale National Secretary Maheshwar Thounaojam has called for translating Lamyanba Hijam Irawat’s ideals into action to help end the prolonged suffering and unrest in Manipur.
Speaking at a programme organised by the RPI Manipur State unit at Haobam Marak to mark Irawat’s 130th birth anniversary, Maheshwar said merely professing love for Manipur without contributing to its welfare amounted to pretence.
Earlier, people gathered at Pisum to pay floral tributes at Irawat’s memorial, followed by a procession to Haobam Marak. Tributes were also paid to his portrait at the programme venue.
Maheshwar recalled Irawat’s struggles for the people and said his courage, determination and commitment should inspire the present generation during the state’s difficult period.
He said commemorating Irawat should go beyond floral tributes and programmes, with his ideals reflected through concrete efforts for the welfare of the people and protection of Manipur.
He expressed hope that the prevailing unrest would end and peace and stability return to the state.
