Ukhrul, Dec 22:
Under the theme, “Let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit” (2 Corinthians 7:1), the ‘I Pray You God’ (IPUG) prayer cell organized a mass cleanliness drive on Saturday at Nayi-Kaphung, one of Ukhrul’s most picturesque picnic spots.
The initiative, led by ten dedicated members of the IPUG prayer cell, showcased a commendable effort to maintain environmental cleanliness. Armed with spades and an unwavering commitment, the group cleared fallen leaves, plastic waste, and other litter, depositing them in designated bins.
Speaking to the media, IPUG representative Eno. Honshok Sareo emphasized the importance of individual and collective responsibility in maintaining cleanliness. “Sanitation is everyone’s duty. This cleanliness drive targets one of Ukhrul’s most-visited spots, which deserves to be preserved and cared for,” he said. He further acknowledged the consistent efforts of the IPUG members and called for greater public participation in such initiatives.
During the drive, the group not only collected and disposed of waste but also took extra measures to enhance the area’s sustainability. They dug pits to burn collected debris and created three additional pits for future waste disposal by visitors. The team also cleaned drains, cleared bushes, and removed weeds from the surrounding areas to ensure a healthier and cleaner environment.
To promote awareness, eight notice boards were erected across the site, urging visitors to use the designated pits and keep the area clean. Additionally, the team constructed two sitting and resting areas within the periphery to provide comfort for visitors.
IPUG’s initiative highlights the need for collective action to protect and preserve recreational spots like Nayi-Kaphung. The group fervently appealed to visitors to maintain cleanliness and use the waste pits provided. They hope their efforts will inspire others to take similar steps in their communities, transforming Nayi-Kaphung into a pristine and refreshing recreation center for all.
Such acts of service demonstrate that with small but meaningful actions, cherished spots like Nayi-Kaphung can become not only cleaner but also a source of pride and joy for the people of Ukhrul. IPUG’s example is a reminder that caring for the environment is an act of kindness towards both nature and humanity.
