Imphal, Dec 22:
The Art of Living, Manipur, celebrated the first-ever World Meditation Day yesterday, with a series of meditation and awareness sessions across the state. Following the United Nations’ declaration of December 21 as World Meditation Day, local Art of Living faculty members conducted sessions at several locations, drawing significant participation from diverse groups.
Meditation sessions were held at the Art of Living Centre, relief camps, rehabilitation centers, schools, and coaching institutions. Prominent locations included the Art of Living Centre with 35 participants, a relief camp at TAKDO Club in Khuyathong, Pukhri Chaoba with 40 participants, and Shine Rehabilitation Centre in Thangmeiband with 35 participants. Other venues like the Maangal Rehabilitation Center under the Social Welfare Department of Manipur, Smart Tutorial Coaching at Nambol, and St. John English High in Nambol also witnessed enthusiastic involvement. Additionally, sessions at Mekola Relief Camp, Nambol Therapy Centre, Little Millennium in Khurai, Kakching Indoor Stadium, and the Department of Teacher Education at Manipur University in Canchipur brought the total participation count to hundreds, with 160 participants recorded at Manipur University alone.
The celebrations also included awareness programs highlighting the benefits of meditation in addressing stress, anxiety, and other challenges of modern life.
A major highlight of the day was an epic online meditation session led by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, which set a Guinness World Record for participation.
Meditation, once reserved for spiritual seekers, has now gained mainstream recognition as an effective tool for improving mental clarity, emotional balance, and overall well-being. Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, founder of The Art of Living, has played a pivotal role in bringing meditation to millions worldwide for over four decades. By presenting ancient practices with modern sensibilities, he has made meditation accessible and appealing to today’s generation.
With over 350 research studies validating its benefits, meditation is increasingly viewed as a necessity rather than a luxury for achieving balance and resilience in today’s fast-paced world. The Art of Living’s efforts continue to underscore the transformative potential of meditation, making it a universal practice for enhancing the quality of life.
