International Human Rights Day was observed across the state at various places of the state under the theme Our Rights, Our Freedom Always. The day is oberved at Manipur Press club under the innitiative of Committee on Human Rights (COHR).
Dr. Pramod, Sr. Faculty LMS Law College, Phulindro Konsam, Chairman COHR, Wangkhemcha Shyamjai, President AMWJU and Dr. Y. Mani Khuman, President AMUCO attended the observance as dignitaries on the dais.
Speakers on the occasion highlighted the present state of human rights in the state being violated by the armed security forces under the shadow of the draconian AFSPA.
International Human Rights day is being observed across the globe today to mark the declaration of the Universal declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations General Assembly on this day in 1948.
The day is also observed at Lamyanba Sanglen, Palace compound and was observed by Sharmila Kanba Lup. Speakers on the occasion lambasted the government attitude towards negligence of the rights of the people of Manipur. The observance also shows its support to the ongoing movement by Sharmila for repeal of AFSPA.
