Imagi Meira president blasts State Government over conflicting militant entry reports

IT News
Imphal, Sept 27:

In a blistering critique of the state government’s handling of security matters, Imagi Meira Convenor Thokchom Sujata lashed out at the state government administration, particularly the Security Advisor and Director General of Police (DGP), for their contradictory statements regarding the alleged entry of 900 armed Kuki militants. Speaking at a press conference at the Manipur Press Club, Sujata expressed her deep frustration over the government’s inconsistent messaging, declaring that Imagi Meira would no longer remain silent in the face of such alarming developments.
Sujata’s outrage centered on the government’s confusing response to reports of the militant infiltration. She pointed to Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh’s initial confirmation of the entry, which was later withdrawn following threats of agitation from Kuki Civil Society Organizations (CSOs). “They’ve silenced us for too long. But we cannot stay silent anymore,” Sujata stated emphatically.
The Imagi Meira leader did not mince words as she questioned the motives behind the government’s sudden retraction of its earlier claim. Sujata suggested that the shift could have been influenced by pressure from Kuki groups. “Why was the announcement withdrawn after the Kuki memorandum? Have you forgotten your duty as Security Advisor? Why are you afraid of memorandums submitted by the Kuki?” Sujata asked, visibly angered by the government’s backtracking.
Sujata’s sharpest criticism was reserved for Assam Rifles, which took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to cast doubt on the original report of the militants’ entry. She slammed the security apparatus for failing to properly verify the facts before making any public statements, holding both the Security Advisor and the DGP accountable for creating unnecessary confusion. “Why conduct a press conference before verifying such sensitive information?” she demanded, adding that this mishandling only deepened the public’s mistrust of the authorities.
“If attacks by armed Kuki militants occur in the periphery on September 28 or the days that follow, the responsibility lies squarely on the Security Advisor and the DGP,” Sujata warned, demanding that both officials either take responsibility for any potential fallout or resign from their posts.
The Imagi Meira President didn’t stop there. She accused the state government of failing to act against the 10 MLAs allegedly backing the Kuki militants, equating this inaction with tacit support for the militants. Sujata questioned Chief Minister N. Biren Singh’s reluctance to take decisive steps against two Kuki ministers in his cabinet. “What are they doing today? Why is there no action against them?” she asked, calling out the government’s lack of leadership.
Sujata further condemned the deafening silence from the rest of the state’s ministers and MLAs. “Our people are burning under the constant threat of Kuki militant attacks, yet our leaders remain mute,” she said, urging immediate action from those in power to protect Manipur from further chaos.
With September 28 approaching, Sujata’s words serve as a stark reminder of the growing unrest and the urgent need for strong, coordinated leadership. As uncertainty looms, the public’s patience is wearing thin, and the demand for accountability is only getting louder.
