With the state going into a violent frenzy and unrest following the death of a student and wounding of several others while demanding for the implementation of Inner Line Permit System in Manipur, the state is still experiencing unrest and protests with sporadic incidents of violence even a fortnight after the outbreak.
Representatives of Kangleicha Yaipha Laming Lup, Social Development Organisation, Meira Paibi Lup of Naorem Leikai and Nameirakpam Leikai visited the family of Sapam Robinhood and handed over financial assistance to the members of the family of the deceased student. Later, members of the groups jointly staged a protest rally starting in front of Kakwa Police station till the Naorem Leikai Community Hall. The participants shouted slogans demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit System and punishment of those responsible for the death of Robinhood. A sit-in-protest was also staged at Nagamapal Singjubung Leirak by members of Khwai Singjubung Womens Welfare Association demanding the implementation of Inner Line Permit System and punishment of those responsible for the death of Robinhood. Khuman Lampak Dinku Road Auto Drivers & Owners Association also took out a sit-in-protest at the Khuman Lampak Bus Terminus supporting the demands of the JCILPS. W Premananda, General Secretary of the association told our correspondent that they have resolved to suspend passenger service till the state government agrees to the demands of the JCILPS. Shops at Khurai Lamlong Bazar remained closed and supporters of JCILPS blocked the roads.
