Hunger strike continues at Dhanamanjuri University

IT News
Imphal, July 14:

Fifteen students from Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) have been on a hunger strike, demanding the appointment of regular staff and key officials at the university since July 9. Despite their health deteriorating, the students are steadfast in their resolve to continue the strike until their demands are addressed.
One of the students on hunger strike, T. Dijen, voiced his frustration over the lack of action from the authorities. He pointed out that the student body has been pushing for the appointment of a permanent registrar for six years and a permanent vice-chancellor for the past five months. Even after various forms of protest, the authorities have shown no response, leading the students to escalate their movement. So far, no official has engaged in dialogue with the protesters.
T. Dijen mentioned a minor positive development after a recent meeting with the governor of Manipur, who recommended that the authorities issue an order for the appointment of a permanent vice-chancellor. However, the students have pledged to continue their hunger strike until all essential staff positions, including registrar, controller of examinations and both teaching and non-teaching staff, are filled.
The protests has exposed major concerns in the university, including delays in the academic calendar, affecting more 10,000 students enrolled in various courses. The student community is calling on the state government to promptly address these issues by appointing the necessary staff to ensure the smooth operation of the university.
