Bureaucratic Neglect at Dhanamanjuri: Students and Faculty Suffer

Dhanamanjuri University, once a beacon of higher education, is now engulfed in a crisis that threatens the future of its students and the well-being of the university. The university has become a symbol of administrative neglect and bureaucratic inefficiency, casting a shadow over the aspirations of countless students and the dedication of its teaching staff. The most glaring issue facing Dhanamanjuri University is the delay in conducting exams. Timely examinations are crucial for the academic progression of students, yet this basic requirement has been repeatedly overlooked. The administrative apathy is evident in their inability to organize exams on time, leaving students in a state of limbo. This delay not only hampers their academic journey but also affects their mental health and future career prospects. Students who aim to pursue higher studies or job opportunities are left stranded, uncertain about their next steps due to the absence of timely results.
The question arises: why do bureaucrats take charge of a university if they cannot manage it effectively? The answer lies in a deeply entrenched system that prioritizes political appointments over merit and expertise. These bureaucrats often lack the necessary experience and dedication to manage an educational institution. Their primary focus tends to be not on addressing the pressing needs of the university. This misalignment of priorities has played a significant role in the current state of affairs at Dhanamanjuri University.
The exploitation is not limited to students; the teaching staff at Dhanamanjuri University is also bearing the brunt of administrative failures. Despite their qualifications and dedication, many teachers are subjected to appalling working conditions. The university’s failure to secure the 12B status from the University Grants Commission (UGC) has deprived the faculty of essential funding and research opportunities. This status is crucial as it enables institutions to receive financial assistance and grants from the UGC, which in turn supports faculty development and research initiatives. The lack of 12B status has left teachers without the necessary resources to pursue academic excellence, stifling their professional growth and ability to contribute meaningfully to their fields.
The plight of guest lecturers is even more disheartening. Reports suggest that some guest lecturers are paid a meager sum of Rs. 5000 per month, a pittance compared to the work they put in. This inadequate compensation is not only unjust but also demoralizing. Guest lecturers play a crucial role in enriching the academic environment by bringing in fresh perspectives and expertise. However, the university’s disregard for their well-being and fair compensation reflects a broader disregard for quality education. Dhanamanjuri University’s transformation from a reputed college into a state university was intended to elevate its status and broaden its academic horizons. Unfortunately, this transition has instead led to its decline. The state university status has brought with it a host of bureaucratic challenges and political interference, overshadowing the institution’s core mission of providing quality education.
In the midst of this crisis, students have taken to the streets in protest, demanding justice and accountability. Their frustration is palpable as they fight for their right to education and a secure future. However, instead of addressing their legitimate concerns, the government has responded with repression. The use of police force to suppress student protests is a shameful act that further highlights the disconnect between the authorities and the academic community. The students’ peaceful demonstrations have been met with violence and intimidation, undermining the democratic principles that the university should uphold.
To address these issues, firstly, there needs to be a shift in administrative priorities, with a focus on timely exams and student welfare and secondly, the appointment of experienced and dedicated VC and other key official is essential to steer the university in the right direction. Additionally, obtaining the 12B status should be a priority to secure necessary funding for faculty development and research. Ensuring fair compensation and better working conditions for guest lecturers is also crucial to maintain a motivated and high-quality teaching staff.
The exploitation of students and faculty cannot be ignored if the institution is to reclaim its former glory. It is imperative for the concerned authorities to take immediate and decisive action to rectify these issues, ensuring that Dhanamanjuri University once again becomes a beacon of hope and opportunity for its students and faculty.
