HSLC exam conducted smoothly amidst general strike

The High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination, conducted by the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM), commenced today amidst a 48-hour general strike. Despite concerns raised by parents and students due to the general strike announcement yesterday, the exam proceeded as scheduled and was conducted smoothly and efficiently.
According to official figures, a total of 37,715 students are set to appear for the HSLC Exam across 154 examination centres statewide. Of these students, 27,281 are enrolled in private institutions, 9,119 are from Government schools, and 1,315 are from aided schools. Notably, there are 63 examination centres in hill districts and 91 in the valley.
Parents expressed apprehension upon hearing about the general strike, as the HSLC examination is considered a pivotal moment in every student’s academic journey. However, recognizing the importance of the exam for their children’s future careers, they ensured their children reached the examination centres on time without any hindrance.
Commenting on the situation, a concerned parent emphasized the need for managing crises in Manipur and highlighted the importance of addressing state issues while ensuring students’ academic progress. Many parents have invested significant efforts in supporting their children’s education amidst the ongoing crisis, urging the state government to resolve the situation promptly to prevent students from falling behind in their academic pursuits.
Education Minister Th Basanta Kumar Singh extended his best wishes to all students taking the HSLC Examination 2024. He encouraged students to remain focused and committed to their studies, assuring them of the Department of Education’s full support. The Minister also commended teachers for their dedication and valuable contributions in preparing students for this significant milestone.
