Home Dept. asks NHRC to drop recommendation on compensation

Imphal, June 02: Regarding the death of Tongbram Sana Singh, s/o T Rashi in September 2012 Airport Road, Ghari under Lamphel Police station, State Home Department has ordered the Deputy Registrar (Law), National Human Rights Commission, New Delhi to drop recommendation of any compensation to the next kin of the deceased.
Regarding the death of Sana, Home Department, Government of Manipur issued an order for conducting Magisterial Enquiry to District Magistrate, Imphal West and furnished the report to Home Department on 13/06/2013.
The enquiry officer stated that an encounter took place at Airport Road, Ghari Village and Changangei Ucheckon area on September 25, 2012 leading to the death of T Sana, s/o T Rashi of Lalambung Makhong Nousekpam Leikai, Imphal West, said a letter from Home Department, Government of Manipur.
As per the Magisterial Enquiry report and statement of elder brother of namely T Mubi Singh, s/o T Rashi of Lalambung Makhong Nousekpam Leikai, Imphal West, the deceased T Sana was earlier arrested by Imphal Police for being a member of PREPAK (PRO), an outlawed organisation and was later remanded to judicial custody in Sajiwa Jail in connection with the case. Character and antecedents were verified from SP/CID (SB) vide message no 27/7 (3)02-SB (X)/(Pt-I)/2769, according to which the deceased was earlier arrested on 10/08/2009 in connection with FIR No 264 (8)09 at Imphal Police Station for being member of PREPAK (PRO), added the letter.
