Hijam Irawat remembered on his 119th birth anniversary

Manipur Loumi Lup has celebrated the 119th Birth Anniversary of Jananeta Hijam Irawat Singh and observed Kisan Demand Day today at Keishampat Lairembi Community Hall.
Addressing at the gathering, former Minister, Ningthoujam Mangi Singh, who is also the president of Manipur Loumi Lup said that the late social reformer launched various movements for the welfare of the oppressed section of the society as well as farmers. Irawat dedicated his entire life while fighting for the oppressed people against. Pro-people movements like ‘One school one village, post office for all village, one administration for hill and valley, no tax at forest gates, deduction of land revenue were launched by Irawat against the then ruler.
Hijam Irawat Singh (30 September 1896 – 26 September 1951), is a multifaceted person, who had contributed in the fields of sports, arts and culture, women empowerment, politics, equality for all. The people of the state fondly remembered him as a freedom fighter, politician and social activists.
In their speech, Dr Moirangthem Nara Singh, Secretary of CPI, Manipur Unit; Laishram Sotinkumar, Secretary of Irawat Celebration Committee, CPI leader Langol Iboyaima and others remembered the works of Irawat.
A 15-point charter of demands was also resolved and read out during the meeting.
The demands of the Loume Lup include Indo-NSCN (IM) should not affect the territory of Manipur; implement ILP in Manipur; appropriate compensation for flood affected people; implement Land Execution Act- 2013 instead of 2015 Ordinance; pension for aged (60 years old and above) people, universalisation of PDS items; curb corruption; zero interest farmers loan; daily wages of Rs 300 for MGNREGA; policy for total literacy; stop oppress against minority and women; waive off loan from farmers and special economic packages for flood affected people.
