A gunfight broke out between security forces and suspected Kuki militants in Bishnupur district late Wednesday night, following an attack on an Indian Army post, police said.
According to a statement issued by Manipur Police, the incident occurred at around 11:40 pm on March 25 in the general area of Phouljang/Gothol. Suspected armed militants reportedly opened fire towards an Indian Army post located at Phougakchao Awang Leikai, triggering an immediate response from security personnel.
The Indian Army, along with personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) 58th Battalion deployed in the area, retaliated by returning fire towards the source. The exchange of fire continued for approximately 30 minutes, the statement said.
No casualties have been reported so far.
Security forces, including the Indian Army, CRPF, Manipur Police and the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB), launched a joint combing operation from the early hours of Thursday in the area where the incident occurred and adjoining hill regions.
Officials stated that the situation is under close monitoring, with search operations continuing in surrounding areas.
Authorities have also appealed to the public to maintain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information, urging citizens to verify facts before sharing.
