AMSU raises concern over alleged irregularities in faculty recruitment at Kumbi College

The All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) has expressed concern over the recent appointment of 26 Assistant Professors at Kumbi College for the 2025 academic session, alleging irregularities in the recruitment process.
In a press statement issued by its Secretary General Salam Changkhonba, AMSU stated that the appointments were made through what it described as improper procedures. The organisation said the issue came to light after a member of the college’s Governing Body reportedly dismissed the union’s allegations in the media. However, AMSU maintained that the Chairman of the Governing Body, Moirangthem Mangi, had acknowledged the concerns raised by the student body, which, it said, substantiates claims of corruption and nepotism in the recruitment process.
The union alleged that unqualified individuals were appointed as teaching staff without proper verification, which it termed detrimental to the academic environment and the future of students.
AMSU further urged the concerned authorities, including representatives from Manipur University, the Directorate of Education (University), and the College Development Council, to intervene and initiate necessary action to address the alleged irregularities.
The student body also appealed for a thorough review of the recruitment process and called for corrective measures to ensure transparency and merit-based appointments.
Additionally, AMSU urged individuals who may have secured positions through unfair means to step aside voluntarily and allow deserving and qualified candidates to serve as faculty members in the institution.
