Day after the All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) had urged the state government for constitution of a judicial enquiry commission to the skull recovery case from the erstwhile Tombisana High School Campus in Imphal, Senior Advocate Khaidem Mani today echoed the demand saying that investigation of the case by constituting an enquiry commission will be the right step.
Speaking to media persons today, Khaidem mani said that should constitute a commission of enquiry under the commission of inquiry act 1952, headed by a retired judge of the High Court or district court to find out the truth behind the finding. He said based on the recommendation of the judicial commission, the government should set up a Special Investigation team (SIT) to drill the matter.
“Delay in dealing the case will not bring any good and the government should be sincere in delivering their service,” said Mani.
He further added that since AFSPA came into force in the state of Manipur in 1980s, there are a total of 20 cases of involuntarily disappeared people. And there is a reason for everyone to believe that the skulls recovered from the erstwhile Tombisana High School Campus have linked with those cases, he added. He said that most of the involuntarily disappeared cases has never been solved.
It may be mentioned that the state government had decided to hand over the case of the skull recovery to a central Investigative agency. And following the decision the state cabinet had resolved to hand over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
