Imphal, Aug 5:
Laishram Saratchandra Singh, who has been on deputation in the engineering cell of the Education Department and was promoted to Chief Engineer Incharge, has been relieved from duty. L. Saratchandra Singh was appointed as Superintending Engineer on deputation to the Education Engineering Wing of the Education (S) Department in August 2020. His appointment order, No. 4/17/2017-SE(S)EEW(Pt), stated that he would be on deputation for a period of two years, extendable for three years, in the scale of Executive Engineer. He was subsequently designated as the Chief Engineer-in-charge.
However, his appointment in the Education Department has been marred with controversy, including numerous court cases pending and defamation cases against some media organisation including “Imphal Times” for reporting the alleged irregularities of his appointment and promotions.
Now, the government has issued another order in the name of the Governor of Manipur, stating that “L. Saratchandra Singh, Engineer of the Office of the LDA/DRDA, Chandel, who was deputed to be appointed as Superintending Engineer at Education Engineering Wing, Education (S) Department in the scale of Executive Engineer, is relieved with effect from 04.08.2024.”
In the notification of his deputation in August 2020, it was stated that the total period L. Saratchandra Singh could remain in the Education Department was five years starting from 2020. However, he has been relieved prior to this period. He will hand over the charge of Chief Engineer to Konsam Victor Singh and report back to his parent department, Loktak Development Authority.
