Imphal, Aug 8:

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh announced today that the district administration will cover all expenses for the rituals and cremation of IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons) who have lost their lives in relief camps, providing a sum of Rs. 30,000.
Addressing a call attention motion raised by Congress MLA K Ranjit Singh during the ongoing 6th Assembly session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister clarified the situation regarding recent allegations. MLA K Ranjit Singh cited a report in Huiyen Lanpao daily claiming that IDPs and locals had to pool money for the cremation of Aheibam Ibotombi Singh after the Deputy Commissioner allegedly refused to provide financial assistance.
Responding to the motion, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, also the Home Minister stated that the report was incorrect. He explained that the IDP committee had clarified there was no denial from the Deputy Commissioner (DC) for cremation assistance. The DC had requested a formal application for the process, and subsequently, on July 19, 2024, a sum of Rs. 11,000 was released for the victim’s cremation.
The Chief Minister assured that all Deputy Commissioners across Manipur have been instructed to provide Rs. 30,000 to the families of IDP victims who pass away in relief camps. Additionally, he highlighted that medical checkup camps are conducted twice a week in all relief camps, with medicines provided free of cost. If specific medicines are required that are not available with the health team, the health department procures them upon receiving recommendations from the respective Deputy Commissioners.
