The 12-hours state wide public curfew clamped by Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has largely affected the normal life.
The committee called the curfew from 4 am to 4pm today against the state government’s failure to meet the August 15 deadline set by them to introduce a new Bill for protection of indigenous people.
A large number of agitators converge at main roads since morning, while some of them were seen inviting others from their locality to join them by clinging electric/iron poles. They prevented vehicular movements by blocking all roads connecting the state capital and shut down all commercial establishments brining the city to a complete standstill. Banking and postal services were stopped for the day.
Protestors at Langjing Achouba have returned home police personnel. While, youth and women of Patsoi Part III, Takyel, Moirang Leirak and Khanam Leirak blocked the roads, according to report. At least 4 auto rickshaws were destroyed by protestors at Koirengei. While, 4 vehicles including 3 auto rickshaws and a Boloro were destroyed by protestors at Keishamthong Leimajam Leikai in the morning. However no reports of casualty received till the filing of this news.
Vendor women also destroyed shops that opened during the public curfew. Sit-in-protests were staged by various women bodies around the city demanding to implement Inner Line Permit System. Meira Paibis of Keishamthong area formed human chain at Keishamthong Keithel.
State police forces have been deployed at different location to prevent untoward incident during the public curfew.
