As according to the collective leadership of the NSCN-IM it is clear that the so call Nagalim, which was propagated by the NSCN-IM under the leadership of Thuingalen Muivah and Isaac Swe has been recognised as a nation state which was never dominated by any of the king or emperors so far ruled in the region. The statement made by the top two leaders of the outfit, (who area being alleged as the mastermind to the killing of over 900 Kuki civilians including women and children in the early 90s at different part of Manipur), said that the recent framework agreement signed between the Government of India and the NSCN-IM is “historic” as the framework is a way to pave through the journey of getting what the NSCN-IM has been demanding.
The NSCN-IM today celebrates it 69th Independence Day at its Hebron Designated camp. Media speculations said that the General Secretary Thuingalen Muivah will announce the details of frame work during his speech of the Naga Independence Day celebration.
It cannot be predicted as of now, whether the historic speech will bring peace or break out another mass protest.
On the other hand, since June 8, after a student identified as Sapam Robinhood was killed in police while participating a democratic protest demonstration demanding the introduction of ILPS in the state, Manipur has been reeling under a lawlessness situation till today. The intensity of the protest have gone out of hand and having no choice the the Okram Ibobi Singh led government has left with no choice but to called a special session and withdraw the bill which people have not accepted.
Government had tried to solved the matter by inviting the JCILPS members by as the later had stated that they have already put up their demands no talk was held until many of the people opines for holding talk if the matter was to be settled. Perhaps the pressure of the public and the simultaneous invitation from the government had finally accepted the meeting. Two times the sitting between the two were held and the most unfortunate thing is that instead of reaching an amicable situation the JCILPS intensify the agitation by calling 12 hours public curfew from 4 pm till 4 pm today. The public curfew was called a day ahead of the Indian Independence Day.
It is disheartening to learn that people of this region particularly the people of the state this time too is in dilemma whether to prepare for the Independence day or not. 15 August is important for all the people of the country. But since the last 4 decades people of the state have never felt the joy of celebrating the day because of one or other problem face by the people of the state.
It is no doubt that amidst all the trouble, the state government is all set to celebrate the day but under tight security force.
As the day is boycott not only by rebel groups but also by the people demanding the JCILPS and the JAc formed against the killing of Sapam Robinhood, it is now sure that there will be no civilian participating the joyous moment of the country.
It is a fact that Manipur reels under serious form of protest for three or months. The central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi too knows that. But the most surprising thing is that the Prime Minister who even utilised all form of media to get in touch with almost all the people of the country haven’t spoke out a single words on what has been happening in the state.
The attitude of Mr. Prime Minister is a clear indication to show that problem being happeing in the state is of no importance to the central government.
To remind an incident; when Chinese cross portion of border at Arunachal Pradesh, Kashmir or Panjab, Indian government takes no time to response. But when many of the territory belonging to Manipur (India) has been encroached by the Myanmar Army not even a single word has been spoken regarding that. Forget about deploying army to flush them out.
