Imphal, August 05: Home Minister Gaikhangam today called upon the people of the state to preserve its culture and identity. Speaking on the 4th Foundation Day of the South East Asia Cultural Organisation (SEACO) at Keishampat Lairembi Community Hall, Imphal, the home minister said that people in the hilly region who had adopted to Christianity had also realised the importance of preserving their tradition and culture. He also appreciated SEACO and other similar civil organisations for their works to preserve our culture, religion and tradition. He said that changes are important to bring development to the society but our identities should remain unchanged as the identity depicts our own religion, culture and tradition. He added that earlier in the valley region too most of the words used were adopted from others but now they realised the importance of preserving its own language and tradition after the birth of various cultural organisations such as SEACO.
