Former Lok Sabha MP from Outer Manipur, Dr. Lorho S. Pfoze, has resigned from the primary membership of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) and joined the National People’s Party (NPP) at the organisation’s Shillong headquarters today.
In a letter addressed to the NPF president on September 11, Dr. Lorho, who hails from Senapati district and belongs to the Mao Naga community, stated that he was stepping down from the party’s primary and active membership citing “personal reasons.” The 65-year-old doctor-turned-politician described the move as a difficult decision but expressed gratitude to the NPF for the opportunity to serve in various capacities.
Dr. Lorho was elected to the 17th Lok Sabha from the Outer Manipur parliamentary constituency in 2019.
Today, he formally joined the NPP in Shillong, where he was welcomed into the party fold by NPP leader and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma. Welcoming the former MP, Conrad Sangma remarked that Dr. Lorho would be “an asset to the party” and would work to strengthen NPP’s vision of One Voice, One North East.
Pfoze expressed his commitment to the party’s inclusive approach during his remarks. “We, as indigenous communities, should work together in the region. The vision of late Purno Agitok Sangma is an inspiration for us all. His views were to reach out to all communities in this great nation,” he said.
The joining ceremony was attended by NPP National Working President James K. Sangma, Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, state ministers, MLAs from Manipur, and other senior party officials.
