Former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh left for New Delhi today, triggering fresh speculation over possible steps to restore a popular government in the state as President’s Rule approaches its scheduled expiry next month.
Also travelling to the national capital is BJP Manipur Pradesh President A. Sarda Devi, adding to political interest surrounding the visit.
When approached by mediapersons about the purpose of his visit, N. Biren Singh offered a brief response, stating that the central government would take action “very soon.” President’s Rule in Manipur is due to expire in February, and political circles are actively discussing the likelihood of reinstating an elected government without any further extension of central rule.
The developments come against the backdrop of a meeting held in New Delhi last month, during which senior BJP leaders summoned all party MLAs from Manipur, cutting across community lines. Almost all BJP legislators attended the meeting, which had further strengthened expectations regarding the formation of a popular government in the state.
Although no official announcement has been made so far, the visit by key BJP leaders from Manipur has added momentum to deliberations on the future political course of the state.
