Imphal, March 26: People of Manipur remembered late Eigya Kakchingtabam Sundergopal Sharma (Meitei Burmese, Myanmarese name U Htun Shwe) by paying floral tribute to the portrait of him during a shradha ceremony held at Wangkhei Puja Lampak community hall today.
The ceremony is organised by Indo Myanmar Association and YVO Wangkhei.
Speaking on the occasion, S Sammu, Advisor of Indo-Myanmar Association said that the contribution of Late Sunergopal to the Manipuri community of Mandalay will remain as long as human civilizations exist.
Sudergopal had frequent meeting with the state government, civil society organisations and different politicians of Manipur in-order to impart the culture, customs and Manipuri language to the Meitei community in Myanmar, he added.
S Shammu also said that Sundergopal was the only person who made a connecting bridge between the Manipuri descendents in Myamnar and Manipur by bringing them to the state.
Manipuri information has also been established in Myanmar under his supervison, he added.
Eigya Kakchingtabam Sundergopal Sharma died in a tragic road accident on March 15, 2017 on his way to Mandalay to Tamu.
