Manipur Science and Technology Council, Imphal in association with anthropology department, MU today inaugurated a five day long regional training workshop on science journalism/ writing for North Eastern states at the conference hall of Anthropology Department, MU.
Speaking in the occasion, Dr. Manoj Kumar Patairiya, Additional Director General, Prasar Bharati, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Govt. of India said that the idea of the workshop is to connect all the disciplines such as science and mass communication for the common cause of developing science communicators. The main objective of the workshop is to develop an interface between journalists and scientists that is the science communicator fraternities wherein people who are working in science but are interested in communication and the communicators who are working in media but are interested in science can also join the group. Manoj further said that over the period of time 500 such workshops have been conducted at various places of the country. He appreciated Manipur for producing three national awardees from the state and said that he hoped they would start to encourage the young generation to promote science communication.
Attending the inaugural function as Chief Guest, Prof. HNK Sharma, Vice Chancellor, MU said that Manipur Science and Technology Council is taking active role for the last many years in order to give impact of science and technology to the common people. There has been lot of changes taken place during the last decade such as the expansion of the internet through mobile phone, direct to home radio, television, etc making easy access of information at any time. He added that he hope this workshop will enhance the participants especially the young science writers to further enhance so that their works get world recognition.
