The Extra-Judicial Execution Victim Families Association, Manipur (EEVFAM) observed its 16th Foundation Day today at Lamyamba Shanglen, Palace Compound, Imphal, under the theme “Respect the Rights of the Victims.” The observance paid homage to those killed in alleged fake encounters and reaffirmed the organisation’s continued struggle for justice and accountability.
A book titled “United Nations Guiding Principles of Internal Displacement” compiled by Human Rights Alert (HRA), Manipur International Youth Centre (MIYC), and Youth Collective Manipur (YCM) was released during the event. The publication highlights the plight of displaced persons and the legal framework for their protection.
The programme was attended by Kanjam Khagendra Singh (KK Singh), Member of the Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC), as Chief Guest. Other dignitaries included Anandi Khangembam, Advisor of AMKIL; Dr. Noni Arambam, Associate Professor, DM University; Dr. Sapam Dilip, Assistant Professor, Manipur University; and Ningthoukhongjam Subhaschandra, counsel for EEVFAM.
The gathering also featured voices from youth organisations and civil society, with speakers such as Aheibam Chanthoi Chanu, Coordinator of Youth Collective Manipur; Md. Islahuddin, Executive Member of People’s Progressive Alliance; and Naorem Rojita Leima, a Meitei internally displaced person, sharing personal and collective experiences of trauma, displacement, and injustice.
Renu Takhellambam, President of EEVFAM, who presided over the event, reiterated the association’s resolve to seek justice for victims of state violence and promote institutional accountability. She underscored the moral responsibility of society to uphold the dignity of victims and ensure that such violations do not continue with impunity.
Speakers urged timely implementation of Supreme Court directives in extrajudicial execution cases pending before authorities and called for protection and redress for families affected by militarisation in the region.
