Drug peddler and KYKL cadre among three arrested in separate operations

Manipur Police and security forces arrested three persons, including an alleged drug peddler and an active cadre of a proscribed militant outfit, in separate operations conducted in Imphal East and Imphal West districts, police said on Thursday.
In the first operation, police arrested an alleged drug peddler from the Mantripukhri area and seized a large quantity of contraband. The accused has been identified as Md. Mustakim, aged twenty nine years, a resident of Sangaiyumpham Part One in Thoubal district. From his possession, police recovered twenty four soap cases containing Heroin Number Four, weighing approximately three hundred ten grams. A car bearing an Assam registration number, suspected to have been used for transporting the drugs, was also seized. Police stated that further investigation is underway to trace the source of the contraband and possible links with wider drug trafficking networks.
In another operation in Imphal West district, security forces arrested two persons, including an active cadre of the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup. The cadre has been identified as Salam Shyam Singh, aged forty four years, who was arrested from a rented house at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai. Following his arrest, his associate Salam Naobi Singh, aged forty three years, a resident of Nongmaikhong Awang Leikai in Kakching district, was also arrested from his residence.
Security forces recovered one hundred eleven rounds of ammunition of different calibres, one high explosive grenade without a detonator, and two detonators from their possession. Police said investigations are continuing to ascertain the intended use of the recovered arms and explosives and to identify others who may be involved.
