Dr. Ningombam Heramani passes away

Professor Dr. Ningombam Heramani, a distinguished psychiatrist and former Head of the Department of Psychiatry at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), passed away on April 16 . He was 72.
With a professional career spanning over 31 years, Professor Dr. Ningombam Heramani made notable contributions to the field of mental healthcare in Manipur. He held an MBBS degree along with an MD in Psychological Medicine and served as the Head of the Department of Psychiatry at RIMS until his retirement in 2020.
After retirement, he continued his medical service as the Head of the Department of Psychiatry at Shija Hospitals and Research Institute from 2021. His tenure, which was extended until December 2025, saw him remain actively engaged in patient care and institutional development even beyond the formal extension period.
Born on September 24, 1954, at Khongman Zone 4 in Imphal East district, Professor Dr. Ningombam Heramani is survived by his wife, one daughter, three sons, a daughter-in-law, and a granddaughter.
The Social Workers’ Congress, Khongman, has expressed deep sorrow over his demise, acknowledging his lifelong dedication to mental health and his service to the community.
