All Club Organisations Association and Meira Paibi Lup (ACOAM Lup) strongly reacted to the statement of the Meitei National Front (MNF) over its criticism in observing burning of Puya day (Puya Mei Thaba Numit) on 17th of Mera Month (traditional Manipuri calendar). In a press conference held today at its office, General Secretary of ACOAM –Lup Sanjit Soraisam said that it is better to tell the truth instead of sticking to the wrong date in observing the Puya Mei Thaba Numit.“ It is not right to continue observing Puya Mei Thaba Numit on 23rd of Wakching (Traditional Manipuri calendar) even as the MNF has been observing it for over 30 years”, Sanjit said. He further said that Bangali script has been in used for over 200 years and is slowing replacing by our indigenous script however if someone said that it is not correct to replace the script since Bengali has been in used for over 200 years will it be justified. The ACOAM Lup general secretary further said that historical evidences and written records has proved that the burning of the secrete scripture of the Meitie falls on the 17th of Mera month of 1732 (Manipuri Calendar). The same date is being recorded in the “Diary of Manipur” written by Nithor Nath in 1904 (page 57); “The lost Kingdom Royal Chronicle of Manipur” written by L Joychandra in 1995 ( page 35); “Lairik Manghalle” a book written Pandit Khwairambam Dev; Lairik Manghalle a book written by Thongam Madhav; Cheitharol Kumbaba published by the Manipur Archive; In the message delivered on occasion of the Foundation Day of HERICOUN on May 15 of 2012 Seminar paper presented by Research Scholar Naoroibam Indramani; write up of Dr. Arambam Lokendra in the Orient Vission Volume V, Issue 1, Jan- March 2008.
