Imphal, July 16:
Vice-Chancellor H. Gyan Prakash of Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) has formally requested Manipur University to provisionally admit DMU students into postgraduate courses. This request comes in light of the ongoing disruptions faced by the university, including recent state incidents and flood-induced closures, which have delayed the academic schedule.
In a letter written today, H. Gyan Prakash, Commissioner of Higher & Technical Education, Government of Manipur, and also the VC of DMU, highlighted that many DMU students have cleared the CUET examination and should be allowed provisional admission despite the delayed results. Final confirmation of their admission will be contingent upon the submission of certificates and final mark sheets, which DMU will issue in August 2024.
Additionally, DMU has announced that the results for the 5th semester examinations (conducted in December 2023) for B.A., B.Sc., B.P.E.S., L.L.B., B.Com, and B.B.A. programs will be declared on 22nd July 2024. The results for the 6th semester examinations, scheduled from 20th July to 29th July 2024, will be announced in the third week of August 2024, as confirmed by Th. Jayantakumar Singh, Controller of Examinations.
These announcements come amidst ongoing student unrest. Students have criticized the DMU administration, questioning why examinations and result declarations have been delayed compared to Manipur University, which is nearby and faced similar challenges. In response to these delays, DMU students have lodged a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), demanding Rs. 100 crore in compensation from DMU authorities, specifically targeting Registrar-in-Charge Nivedita Lairenlakpam and Vice-Chancellor Gyan Prakash.
Furthermore, the Syndicate of Dhanamanjuri University has been constituted with approval from the Chancellor today. An emergency meeting of the Syndicate is scheduled for 11:00 AM on 1st July 2024 at the Conference Hall of Dhanamanjuri University to discuss the declaration of results for various recruitment posts (teaching and non-teaching) and other miscellaneous issues.
