Imphal, Sept 27: Democratic Students’ Alliance, Manipur (DESAM) today locked the newly inaugurated University of Culture protesting massive irregularities to the appointment of faculties. Large number of Volunteers belonging to the students’ body came at around 1.30 pm and locked the office gate shutting the University indefinitely in protest against the alleged anomalies. Minutes before the volunteers of the students’ body locked the gate of the Culture University at Palace compound, Vice President of DESAM, W Anand while speaking to media persons said that despite the assurance given by the government for maintenance of quality, various irregularities has been found to the appointment of faculties in the University. He said the 19 faculties selected for recruitment to the Culture University announced on September 17 are all relatives of the board members. Besides, candidates who passed 12 classed were recruited as faculty member against the notification which called Master degree holder. The Vice President of DESAM also came down heavily to the authority to clarify on why the Sankritan has been included in the syllabus before it is being recognised. On the appointment of faculty for Theatre, the DESAM VP said that a person who produced a film called ‘Auto Driver’ has been selected. “Can a person who is not qualified in the subject but produced any film of any kind be appointed to the post of faculty?”, DESAM questioned.
