Under the initiatives of Pune based NGO called Sarhad and Swanand Adventures a cycle rally called as ‘call of the Brahmaputra’ will be organised on March 13 covering four different states of Northeast India.
Addressing a press conference today at Manipur Press Club, Imphal, Director, Sarhad, Prashant Talnikar said that Sarhad has earlier adopted 150 children from conflict region such as Jammu and Kashmir and Northeast area and given them education. The seven states of northeast having great ancient traditions and abundant natural resources are lagging behind in development. Mr. Talnikar further said that to bridge the gap between castes, creeds, tribes and classes, Sarhad along with Swanand Adventures are organising the rally creating a bond between people to people and promoting peace in an attempt to unite the country.
The leader of the rally, Sanjeev Shah who is also the Director of Swanand Adventures said that Sarhad means boundary and the rally will help in connecting the people from Northeast to the entire states of the country by promoting a feeling in the people that the entire country is standing firmly behind them. The rally starts from Imphal and snakes through Kohima, Guwahati and terminates at Shillong. He added that there will be an interaction program with the participants, students, eminent people and thinkers in the region during the rally. The rally will be coordinated by an eminent social worker in Northeast, Alaka Sharma and Manipur Pedal Attack will also take part in the rally. Mr. Shah added that 25 Maharashtrians including working professionals and students will participate in the cycle rally and the Pugilist, Mary Kom will likely flag off the rally.
President of Manipur Pedal Attack, Gurumayum Gomi Sharma said that the organisation welcome any initiatives taken up by any individuals from outside the state or country to develop the tourism of Manipur. Hence coordinating the initiative taken by Sarhad and Swanand Adventures, 35 members of Manipur Pedal Attack will participate in the cycle rally.
