Imphal, July 22:

The Communist Party of India will raise the issue for the solution of Manipur and the need for a special category status for Manipur to address the longstanding crisis in the state. The party’s MPs have called for immediate solutions and resource allocations to tackle the problems faced by the people of Manipur. They highlighted the necessity of granting Manipur the special category status, especially in light of the ongoing challenges since the unfortunate incident on October 29, 2019.
The National Council meeting held in February 2024 had previously urged the central government to consider Manipur’s special status. This demand was reiterated in the recent National Council meeting from July 13 to 15. The CPI emphasized the need for a socialist economic approach to address the pressing issues in Manipur, criticizing the BJP-led NDA government’s policies for violating the Indian Constitution and failing to provide adequate relief to those living in relief camps.
The CPI also pointed out the dire conditions in the relief camps and the social and economic challenges faced by the people. They demanded immediate and effective actions to support the residents and prevent further deterioration of their living conditions.
The party urged for a thorough investigation into the plight of those in the relief camps and called for visits to these camps by officials to understand the ground realities.
In the parliamentary budget session, the CPI has urged for the inclusion of Manipur’s agenda and for a special budget allocation to reflect the state’s unique needs. Opposition leaders, including Prof. A.K. Bimol and Mr. Arthur, have supported the demand for Manipur’s special category status, highlighting the need for a special package for the state.
The CPI also called on the State Assembly to prioritize Manipur’s issues in their discussions and to ensure that the concerns of the people are addressed. They pointed out the need for a special assembly session to discuss the state’s challenges and to include two ministers and ten MLAs in these deliberations.
Lastly, the CPI condemned the destruction of Meitei village by using explosives in Churachandpur.
