Imphal, Dec 9:

Armed rebel group CORCOM greets the people of the region on the occasion of the 73rd International Human Rights Day that is being observed across the globe on every December 10.
In a message by the Publicity Committee of the CorCom, made available to media houses in the state, the joint body of 4 major armed rebel group of the region said that with the coming of the International Human Rights Day which is observing across the globe under the theme “All Human, All Equals”, the people have been reminded that they are living under the clutch of the colonial regime.
“People of Kangleipak (Manipur) are once more reminded to free themselves from the chain of colonialism with the coming of the International Human Rights Day”, the CorCom statement said.
The statement further said that once a sovereign state in WESEA region has now become a colony with its people suppressed their rights. It said that Manipur was a sovereign democratic state from 1947 till 1949 but was annexed by India in 1949 in violation of all norms. The annexation of Manipur was an open violation of the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights (UNDHR) or a direct violation of Article 1 of the Universal Declaration of Human rights (UNDHR). The Article 1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights says that – “All Human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights”. The theme for this years’ International Human Rights Day and the provisions of the UNDHR clearly indicates that there are people in Manipur (Kangleipak) living beyond the purview of the International laws..
The once upon a time Kangleipak where all communities existed peacefully and harmoniously has been shattered after the erstwhile nation has been colonized, the statement said. This year theme for the International Human Rights day has budded a new hope for the Right to self determination to all the indigenous people of the land. The CorCom statement reminded the Sustainable development Goals (SDGs) 2030. Under this goal, no indigenous people can be left behind as the gaol says “Leaving No One Behind : equality and Non-discrimination.
The statement also stated that the UN Declaration on Human Rights clearly stated the protection of Indigenous people in 2007. But the mainland India has been continuously sending its people to the WESEA region to wipe out the indigenous people.
