Cops thrash IMC Councillor A Romakanta for trying to intervene police excess

Councillor of the Imphal Municipal Council Ward No. 12, Ahanthem Romokanta Singh (age about 53) son of A. Ruhikanta of Keishamthong Ahanthem Leikai was brutally thrashed by Manipur Police team at around 6 pm for trying to stop the police who were assaulting some of the agitators near his residence at Keishamthong Ahanthem Leikai. He was thrashed by the cops even after telling them that he is also the councillor of Imphal Municipal Council Ward No. 12. And later detained him in police custody. He was released today. Speaking to media persons at his home A Romakanta said that as he had seen the police beating some of the agitators a barbaric manner he tried to stop them as it was also his responsibility to look after his people being the representative of the area. Romakanta said soon after he introduced himself as the councillor one among the cop slap him without listening to him. Later, he was beaten by another using baton and marks were shown to the press people.
He said the police excess should be looked carefully, as their action has provoke the agitators. He appealed the concern authority to check the excess activities of the Manipur Police as the situation might gone out of hand if the attitude of the police continues.
