Imphal, Dec 21:
The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) held a press conference today at Congress Bhawan, led by MPCC President, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader, and senior party leaders. Former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh took center stage, accusing the BJP government in Manipur of undermining constitutional norms and sidelining democratic processes.
Highlighting the state’s political climate, Ibobi stated that the BJP government is “doing whatever they like” without adhering to constitutional rules and regulations. He pointed out that the state assembly has failed to hold the mandated three sessions in a calendar year, with no winter session conducted for 2024 despite the year coming to a close.
Ibobi emphasized the importance of functional democratic institutions, asserting that the absence of regular assembly sessions reflects the BJP’s disregard for democratic practices. He revealed that the Congress has submitted a memorandum to the Governor, urging intervention to ensure constitutional compliance. Similar representations have also been made to the Speaker and the Chief Minister.
