Manipur Scientists contribute to Fungal Taxonomy and Biodiversity research

Research by Dr. Laishram Shantikumar Singh and Dr. Thounaojam Salvia, residents of Khangabok in Thoubal district, Manipur, has contributed to fungal taxonomy and Himalayan biodiversity research.

The findings are featured in Fungal Diversity, Volume 136 (2026), under the title Notes on Worldwide New Species and Records. The publication is available at https://doi.org/10.65390/fdiv.2026.136019.

The research highlights the importance of documenting and conserving lesser-known microbial resources in the Himalayan region and exploring their potential benefits for society.

The research was supported by an externally funded project awarded to Dr. Laishram Shantikumar Singh by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, New Delhi, under project reference No. DBT/NER/Agri/24/2013.
