COCOMI-led sit-in protests intensify in Imphal East over Tronglaobi incident

Sit-in demonstrations condemning the Tronglaobi killings intensified in parts of Imphal East district today under the aegis of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), with groups of women staging protests at multiple locations and raising strong demands for justice and accountability.
In the Heingang police station area, coordinated sit-in protests were reported from several localities, including Awang Potsangbam Khunou, Keikol, Mongjam/Maibakhul Lamkhai, and Nilakuthi Lamkhai. The protests were largely led by women, with participation ranging from around 40 to 100 individuals at each site.
At Awang Potsangbam Khunou, around 100 women gathered, displaying banners and placards carrying messages such as calls for a “military crackdown against Kuki narco terrorists,” demands for “capital punishment” for those responsible for the killing of minors, and appeals for punitive action against security personnel accused of civilian killings. Protesters also raised slogans criticising the role of central forces and alleged a “proxy war,” reflecting deep resentment over the handling of the security situation.
Similar demonstrations were held at Keikol, and at Mongjam/Maibakhul Lamkhai and Nilakuthi Lamkhai, each witnessing gatherings various women.
The protesters raised broader political slogans targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Some placards also called for greater empowerment of state forces and demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister and the State Home Minister.
