Ban on Shumang Leela Council leaders lifted, by-laws amended

The ban imposed by five underground groups on the President and Lifetime General Secretary of the Manipur State Shumang Leela Council has been lifted, bringing relief to the Shumang Leela fraternity.
The development was announced by General Secretary Y. Nilachadra while addressing media persons following the conclusion of a general body meeting of the Council. He stated that the meeting also resolved to amend long-standing by-laws of the organisation as part of internal reforms.
Nilachadra further informed that during the Sangai Festival 2025, five Shumang Leela groups and several artistes had faced restrictions that hindered their participation and interaction with the public. The Council expressed appreciation to all concerned individuals and organisations for facilitating the withdrawal of the restrictions, stating that the move would help restore normalcy and safeguard the dignity and welfare of artistes.
The meeting was attended by several senior members of the Shumang Leela community, including Advisor Dr. M. Nara, L. Tarpon, Sivadutta Luwang, Acting President Hawaibam Budhi, Iboyaima Khuman, Ranjit Ningthouja, Punimasi Leima, along with other prominent male and female artistes.
