Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh today laid the foundation stone of district and session judge court complex near Ukhrul police station amidst bandh 24 hour bandh called by Tangkhul Naga Long. The bandh was called in protest against the government’s alleged inaction into increasing anti-social activities and existing law and order in the hill district bordering Myanmar and Nagaland on its east and northern side.
The 24-hour bandh in Ukhrul district however has severely affects the normal life in the hill town of Ukhrul which is located about 84 km north east of Imphal today.
Almost all the Ukhrul bound passenger services have been suspended in view of the bandh which was on intervening night of February 11 and February 12. Though there are reports of movement of private vehicles in the hill town, the movement along the Imphal-Ukhrul route has been affected severely. Reports from the Ukhrul town said that almost all shops and business establishment were shuts during the bandh called.
Before laying foundation stone at Ukhrul the Chief Minister earlier laid foundation stone for District and Session Court at Tamenlong District Head Quarter.
