Chief Minister reviews development projects in Senapati, approves Rikhruri Multipurpose Dam

Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh today reviewed the progress of ongoing development projects across Senapati district and assessed the implementation of various government initiatives during a day-long visit.

The Chief Minister visited the government Potato Farm at Mao, where Commissioner of Horticulture T.N. Panmei informed him that inadequate funding over the past two years had affected the farm’s production capacity.

Noting Mao’s favourable climatic conditions, Khemchand Singh said the area has immense potential not only for potato cultivation but also for floriculture and other horticultural crops. He assured that the government would engage with stakeholders to address the challenges faced by farmers and residents of the Mao area.

During the visit, the Chief Minister also met representatives of the United Naga Council (UNC) at the Mini Secretariat Complex in Senapati and later attended a public reception at the ACI Auditorium in Punanamei village, Mao.

Addressing the gathering, Khemchand Singh announced the formal approval for the construction of the Rikhruri Multipurpose Dam, stating that the project is expected to provide drinking water to 27 surrounding villages.

Responding to a memorandum submitted by the Mao Students’ Union seeking the establishment of a Multipurpose Skill Training, Trade and Youth Activity Centre at Mao, the Chief Minister said the proposal would be placed before the State Cabinet for consideration.

He also assured that the government would examine issues relating to the implementation of agreements concerning landowners of the Potato Farm in consultation with the concerned departments.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, legislators, senior government officials and district administration officers during the review visit.
