Abandoned infant boy rescued in Imphal East

A one-month-old infant boy found abandoned at the gate of the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Imphal East, at Khuman Lampak on June 28 has been placed under institutional care, while authorities have appealed to the public to help identify the child or trace his biological family.

According to the Social Welfare Department, the infant was rescued by the DCPU team and produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Imphal East. The Committee registered the case and directed that the child be placed at the Specialised Adoption Agency (SAA), Imphal East, for care and protection in accordance with the provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.

The case has also been reported to the Porompat Police Station, where a General Diary entry was registered on June 29.

The child has been named Tomthin Nganba by officials of the DCPU, CWC and SAA. Authorities have requested anyone with information about the child’s identity or family to approach the SAA or the DCPU with relevant documents within 60 days of the publication of the notice. If no valid claimant comes forward, the child will be declared legally free for adoption under the Adoption Regulations, 2022.
