The Committee of Civil Societies Kangleipak (CCSK) observed October 18, 1948, as “Kangleipak Manipur gi Puwarida Meeyamgi Leikhiba Numit” (First People’s Government Day in the History of Kangleipak) at Jawaharlal Nehru Dance Akademi. The day marks the establishment of Manipur’s first people’s elected government following the inaugural session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
The observance was graced by veteran politician Dr. M. Nara, CCSK President Jeetendra Ningomba, Associate Professor Th. Bharat from CSSFI Manipur University, Associate Professor K. Indrakumar from DMU, and former Chief Engineer of NHPC M. Lalmani, who attended as dignitaries.
Various speakers reflected on the significance of the historic event on October 18, 1948, which symbolized the birth of Manipur’s first elected government. They emphasized the importance of revisiting this crucial chapter in Manipur’s history while discussing the current situation in the state, drawing parallels between the past and the challenges facing Manipur today.
