CCSK calls for mass support to ‘Manipur Kanba Khongchat’

The Committee of Civil Societies Kangleipak (CCSK) has issued a strong appeal to the people of Manipur to unite in support of the “Manipur Kanba Khongchat” (Save Manipur Rally) scheduled to be held in Imphal on January 31, 2026.
In a sharply worded statement, M. Joy Luwang, Organising Secretary of the Committee of Civil Societies Kangleipak, stated that Manipur, despite having a distinct political map, a definite territory, and its own historical identity and sovereignty, has been pushed into a fragile and vulnerable condition due to what he described as a series of exploitative policies imposed by India. He stated that practices such as divide-and-rule, forceful assimilation, settlement of surplus population, illegal immigration, creation of a captive market, extraction of natural resources and growing militarization have been systematically imposed on the state.
The statement said that communities in Manipur, which had historically coexisted with mutual understanding, are now being driven towards ethnic nationalism as a direct outcome of these divisive policies, posing a serious threat to the collective identity of indigenous people. It further alleged that under the patronage of the Indian state, foreign missionaries have intervened in the social fabric of Manipur by encouraging communities to abandon their indigenous languages, customs and land-based identities, thereby fuelling ethnic politics, deep divisions and violence.
According to the statement, the erosion of collective thinking and the spread of manipulated narratives have created deep internal contradictions among the people, resulting in growing hostility between communities. It stated that no community can survive in the long run under such divisive conditions and described the rise of ethnic armed groups and attempts to dominate others in the name of community identity as the gravest dangers facing Manipur today.
The statement further said that the state is now facing an extremely serious and complex crisis, where individuals driven by personal interests are exploiting public sentiments, either knowingly or unknowingly. It stated that heightened emotions and unchecked sentiments have weakened rational thinking, pushing communities into isolation and confrontation instead of dialogue and reconciliation.
Calling for unity, the Committee of Civil Societies Kangleipak stated that all indigenous communities of Manipur must come together as one to confront and overcome these challenges. It appealed to the people to reject narrow and divisive thinking and collectively resist forces that threaten the social and political fabric of the state. It stated that divisive politics can be countered only through a clear understanding of reality and the development of a shared collective consciousness.
The statement said that with the aim of creating public awareness that policies seeking to divide and weaken Manipur are unacceptable, the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity is organizing the “Manipur Kanba Khongchat” on January 31, 2026 at 10 am. The Committee of Civil Societies Kangleipak, along with UNACSU, AMYPCO, KaPFA, KaKIL, CHITUWA, VVWOK, NILAK, KWWA, SUK and UCSCK, will participate in the rally.
