Imphal, Jan 15: The Citizens Concern for Dams and Development (CCDD) has expressed strong condemnation to the ongoing efforts of the Government of Manipur to complete construction of Mapithel dam of the Thoubal Multipurpose Hydroelectric Project from January 10, 2015 by filling up the portion of dam left for diverting Thoubal River to facilitate dam construction works. In a press statement the organisation said that the ongoing move to finalize dam will lead to direct submergence of agriculture land, grazing ground, forest areas of Chadong and other villages, and threaten affected indigenous peoples’ survival and rights. Entire Chadong Village will be submerged and other villages along Mapithel Range will be affected.
CCDD also showed serious concern to the deployment and reliance on security forces for dam completion works by the Irrigation and Flood Control Department as a clear Municipal Council, Th.Gyanesor Singh,District Agriculture Officer,Thoubal and N.Mani Singh,Social Worker attended as Chief guest, President and Guest of honour respectively
The Programme was attended by experts and spoke on various topics. SMS/KVK,Thoubal, S.Suramangol Singh, explained the use of Modern Technology to yield better crops and increase business. The Programme was attended 50 farmers of Thoubal Achouba
