CBI charge sheet against 3 people for causing a loss of Rs 36.03 crore to PSU

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a charge sheet against a partner of a Mumbai based private company, proprietor of another private firm and another person in the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Esplanade, Mumbai, on charges of causing a loss of Rs 36.03 crore to public undertaking, on Wednesday.
The charge sheet was filed against Sanjeev Chandan, the partner of M/s AS Foods, Andheri West, Mumbai and Sandesh Salgaonkar, the proprietor of of M/s AS Foods and MM Amare, an employee of M/s. Preeti Shipping Agency. The charge sheet alleged that the three accused caused a huge loss to M/s Project and Equipment Corporation of India, a Government of India enterprise in 2016.
The CBI had registered a case on September 30, 2016. “It was alleged that Chandan had obtained pre-shipment credit for export of agricultural products from the complainant company M/s PEC Ltd, (a Government of India enterprise under the Ministry of Commerce).
It was further alleged that the said accused entered into a conspiracy with Salgaonkar and Amare to fraudulently induce M/s PEC Ltd to release the pre-shipment financing amounts on the basis of forged/ fake trust receipts for agricultural products,” the agency claimed in a statement.
“Salgaonkar and Amare had allegedly signed the Tripartite Agreements as Custom House Agent (CHA), without having a CHA License. It was also alleged that they had even allowed Chandan to use their letterhead and stamps on some of the TRs, which were actually not signed by them,” it said.
“A major part of agricultural products for which the pre-shipment credit was taken was not exported, leading to non-realization of the export proceeds. Thus, they were able to cheat M/s PEC Ltd to an extent of Rs 36.03 crore which caused loss to the said company of Government of India. After investigation, a charge sheet was filed,” the CBI statement claimed.
The charge sheet against 15 for a loss of Rs 47.68 lakh to NICL
In another case the CBI filed a charge sheet against 15 accused including then officials of NICL, bank managers and private persons for causing a loss of Rs 47.68 lakh to the National Insurance Company Ltd.(NICL) by filing fake motor accident claims, on Wednesday.
The CBI filed charge sheet before the Special Judge, CBI Cases, Guwahati (Assam) against 15 accused including then Dy. Manager, NICL, Guwahati; then Senior Manager, NICL Mangaldai District, Darrang, (Assam), then Senior Manager, Punjab National Bank (Erstwhile Oriental Bank of Commerce), PNB Circle Office at Dharapur, Guwahati, then Assistant Manager, Punjab National Bank (Erstwhile Oriental Bank of Commerce); empanelled Private Investigators of NICL, a Teacher and Private Persons on the allegations of causing loss of Rs. 47.68 lakh to NICL.
CBI had registered a case against the accused. It was alleged that the accused in connivance with each other made false, forged and fabricated FIRs by using crime numbers of genuine FIRs of various Police Stations of Assam, made false, forged, fabricated complaints and other documents for the purpose of availing benefit of false Motor Accident Claims during the period 2015-2017 and thereby caused loss of Rs. 47,68,000/- to the NICL.
Six arrested in connection with bank fraud
In yet another case the CBI arrested six accused in an ongoing investigation of a case related to bank fraud involving alleged overseas remittances of foreign exchange of about Rs. 6000 crore.
The case was registered on October 09, 2015 on a complaint from Bank of Baroda alleging that unknown bank officials of Bank of Baroda, Ashok Vihar, Branch, New Delhi abused their official position in conspiracy with 59 current accountholders and allowed overseas remittances of foreign exchange illegally of Rs 6000 crore.
A charge sheet was filed in the Court of Special Judge on December 12, 2015 against then
Assistant General Manager, Bank of Baroda and then Forex Officer, Bank of Baroda.
Searches are being conducted at 14 premises associated with the said accused which led to recovery of several incriminating documents.
